India bans TikTok: 'If the Chinese are stealing our data, it is a great decision,' says Zareen Khan [Exclusive]
We recently got in touch with Zareen Khan for an exclusive interview on the TikTok ban as beside being a popular actress, the gorgeous lady's hilarious TikTok videos had become quite the viral sensation of late. Revealing her thoughts about the ban on TikTok along with 58 other Chinese apps, Zareen prudently highlighted how the ban should be applicable for all Chinese products while also sparing a thought about those whose livelihoods have been affected by prohibition of the app and bringing our attention to an entirely new, potentially dangerous angle behind the ban.
Opening up on why the ban should be extended to other Chinese good, Zareen Khan said, "I'm not sure what to say about this. I know that the root cause of this was the increased tensions between India and China, and this is one of the ways our government is fighting back. I think that this ban should not be restricted to just apps, but all Chinese made products, electronics, garments, toys, everything. India is one of the biggest consumers of Chinese goods and if we boycott their products, it will definitely impact their economy."
Empathizing with those whose only source of income has come to an abrupt halt, the actress added, "Although TikTok is a Chinese app, it had a humungous Indian user-base. I have only been on this app for two months or so, but there are so many people who got famous on it, and made a career out of it with brand deals and other endorsements. I have seen so many people crying, begging the government to not ban the app. For those people, for whom TikTok was a source of income, I feel quite bad. TikTok also gave a platform to people in remote parts of the country to express themselves. A lot of people had worked very hard on building their profile and content on this platform, and even garnered followers in the tens of millions. for the people whose sole source of entertainment this was, my heart goes out to them. It is unfortunate that they also lost out, but I’m sure they’ll soon garner the same amount of love on an alternative digital platform. We love our country and in comparison to the scarifice of our army men in Galwan, us just sacrificing these apps is nothing."
Signing off with a new perspective on the ban, Zareen stated, "I have also heard that another reason for the ban is because the app was stealing our data. In today's age, where our whole life is digital, this can be very dangerous. What happens internally is beyond our knowledge, but with tensions riding high, if the Chinese are stealing our data, it is a great decision to ban the app."
